World's longest license key?

I have been evaluating parametric CAD packages this last week. Due to reinstalling Windows I had to request a new license key. Here is one that Geomagic sent me (a few characters have ben changed).

Maybe that keycode *is* the CAD package?

http://www.base64decode.org/ see what it says. The letters you changed above probably corrupted it.

I think Alibre is now Geomagic. I remember my key was about half that long, maybe the key contains the history of the company? :)

Alias used to come with codes at least that long. Eval keys are often longer as they need to pass along use information and options info that expires, number of uses, etc...

Often, those are used to generate a plain text license file. They don't send the files directly because people will often clone hosts to run them. There are other reasons, but that's a very common one.

SendKeys is your friend in cases like this. I seriously don't think I could ever type a license key that long and get it right, no matter how many times I tried.

Yeah, and in the 90's when I was doing this stuff I would get the Alias license keys faxed, they consumed most of a page, were not hex and were sent in a font that doesn't differentiate zeros and other characters very well.

Worse, there was no way to test it before hand on anything other than the host it was encrypted for. (well, until I found out what the host identifiers were and cloned them that is, but that was not talked about back then) So, I would put the best possibilities in notepad, sometimes using a lens on the fax, and either go paste 'em into the machine, or e-mail them off and have the user report back... Some of the machines had modems, and on those I would dial in and drop the files. (SGI IRIX) And toward the end, I could ssh in and use the X window system to run the program on their machine, display on mine and deal with it.

Users of that program were mostly creative, design types who more or less broke down on a page of characters. Can't blame 'em...
