RGB strips are cheap enough to throw around your Christmas tree now! 5-meter strips with the controller & IR remote are going for ~$9: http://www.ebay.com/itm/5M-300-LEDs-Non-Waterproof-LED-Light-Strip-3528-RGB-Lamp-with-IR-remote-System-/221218396301?pt=US_Car_Lighting&hash=item3381a4d88d#ht_9986wt_812

I just ordered 10M (two 5M) plus controller for a cool $17.65: http://www.ebay.com/itm/190869667496

5M strip only, no controller for $7: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Non-Waterproof-3528-SMD-RGB-Flexible-LED-Strip-300-Leds-5M-60Leds-Meter-IP33-New-/400428988828?pt=US_Car_Lighting&hash=item5d3b6d799c#ht_2963wt_1040

These are the non-waterproof (indoor only) type, and you supply the 12V power source. Waterproof and 12V adapter cost more obviously...

I've been watching for the individually addressable Christmas lights at CostCo again. So far I haven't seen any.

I picked up two strands last year, I'd like to get a few more.

I'll probably pull the two I have out of the array configuration to sting up around the house. I just need to figure out what kind of patterns to have it display.

Thanks for sharing, erco. I hope these comes before Christmas week so that I can put the decorations. :)
