Reload Propeller Backpack Original Firmware

Hi, I fear that I corrupted the firmware in my Propeller Backpack. I held the signal low for several seconds, then sent data to it accidentally. Now, I cannot get it to display any video. I am trying to load the original firmware, but cannot seem to find the files "prop_backpack_monitor.binary" and "prop_backpack_tv_terminal.binary" that are referred to in the instructions. Are there newer files out there that are intended to replace the ones listed? Thanks, Sonny

How are you loading the firmware? If the firmware is corrupted, the bootloader which allows firmware updates through a serial connection may also be corrupted.

Do you have some sort of USB to serial device you could use as a PropPlug?

Do you have the Propeller Tool installed on your computer? You may need it if the bootloader of the Backpack has been corrupted.

I don't know what the latest firmware version is, but if you can't find the files and if someone else doesn't help you, I can find them later today.

What microcontroller are you using with Backpack? Do you have any other Propeller boards (It might be possible to use the other board's USB to serial if you don't have a Prop Plug)?

So far, I have not tried uploading at all. I was trying to find the correct files first. My plan was to go through pin 15 on the BS2. I do have a USB-Serial converter, as well as native serial on my computer. I do have the propeller tool installed. I just don't know which files to upload since the ones listed in the instructions don't appear to be available. Thanks, Sonny

Go to the product page for the Propeller Backpack and look in the Downloads section. The documentation is here and a ZIP file of the firmware is here.

Mike, I have that document, as well as the zip file. The files in the zip don't match the file names in the instructions.

Agreed, they're not in the zip file.

    They are here.

You might have to use the Propeller Tool to convert them to a binary file. Or you can just load Spin files if you're USB to serial will work as a Prop Plug.

It seems odd these files aren't available from the product page.

    Mike,

Thanks. With the "overwrite bootloader" checked per the instructions, I was able to upload the "Prop_Backpack_Monitor.binary" without problem. It said it downloaded and verified the eeprom followed by a successful message.

I tried loading "Prop_Backpack_TV_Terminal.binary" after unchecking the overwrite bootloader box. I get a "propeller version 1 found on com 5" message pop up, and after I click OK the message box in the loader utility says "No propeller chip found on any port, or wrong propellent version". It previously said it found the chip, so maybe the wrong propellent version? I have version "1.1 (with CLEAN v0.34)". Not sure how to tell which version is needed.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Sonny
