Hi,
Can anyone or does anyone know about dragon dictate ? The prices are all over the place. Im very limited as to what i can spend. I need it because i can only type with two fingers and even that is hard. due to injury. So if you know of a version of that program that works really well and know where i can buy it from , i would be most definitely very grateful. v??

There are many different versions, with most differences in the vocabulary set. that said, windows has a very good speech recognition system that supports dictation. It is in vista, 7, and 8. There are good tutorial videos in windows as well. There are also training activities that will really increase accuracy if you do them. Go to control panel then speech. Of you have windows, its free. Have fun.

Oh, use a good USB headset microphone with any speech system you use. The microphone will make a bigger difference in accuracy than your choice of software.

    Hi carlyn

I have had some success with Dragon Naturally Speaking ver 12. Like you it is hard to type one handed. It does a pretty good job of recognizing my southern WV / Pittsburgh / Ohio accent. It takes some time to train it to your speach pattern. My computer fataly crashed and I have yet to retrain it.

Look at Amazon I got my best price there and it does come with a fair set of hradphones. I never really tried the Windows version much but it had a hard time with my accent.....

As stated above the microphone is very important, the one supplied with the version of dragon I have has a digital interface to usb the accuracy is very good though when it does make mistakes or doesn't understand, the correction interface is a bit clunky and i usually manually correct using the keyboard.

The trick is to speak fluidly and naturally without pausing to allow the pc to catch up as it eventually does, if you keep stopping or talk as though dictating to a secretary then mistakes creep in.

Agred correcting errors is clunky and I do use the keyboard for that. I never did try to use it to program my Prop or Stamp. Never got as good as the tv add!!!

Thank you all. I’ve started using the widows speech recognition. Its better than i thought but sometimes i have to raise my voice and get cross before it understands, you know like when you are telling a foreigner that does not have good English you need to raise your voice :)

But my microphone is all of 5 bucks worth so it might be good to try a decent headset? Thats a good tip you gave. .
