Perhaps it may be my browser, but I don't think so.
The text menu can be a little misleading by clicking a hyperlink in an already expanded menu, without any visible content changes. And yes I am aware that the active link has a slightly different color, but I also know to look for that. I am afraid that new visitors might get lost without photos to show that an actual page change has occured.
Just my two cents.
