@evanh, based on previous posts, I believe whiteoxe is from Australia....which would make his native language a derivative of English  (like mine!)
(not sure why this is relevant, I think he was hit by some typos more than anything)

@whiteoxe, I recall someone working on using them for a time clock but I can't remember the details. I've also seen them used for entry/access control for doors, automatic garage door lifts, etc.

They are very easy to use. I believe there are demos on the product pages. I've hooked the reader up to a Propeller and read the codes and had it do things.

With a microprocessor, if you can control access to a blinking LED with a smart card, you can pretty much rule the world!!

They are great for door locks, or really anything 'lock' related. We used SMART cards as our military I.D and one really cool perk was using it to integrate with a keyboard and act as a lock/unlock for your work computer. The same process can be used for door locks, car door locks, really anything security you can integrate with SMART cards. This is what I want to do once I get a house is replace keys with SMART cards to unlock and lock my doors.

Yeah, I havent given up on the time clock...i may have explained it before but an uncle has a lasgeish cattle and crop station. I go out now and then and do the payrolls using MYOB. We know a couple of men are not being fair with the hours they are claiming. So this was my suggestion. I looked on ebayb and you can get these same things pretty cheap. Ill have to huryy or hell end up ghetting me to buy one.
We still have to consider the morale hit, that will take place if we make EVERYONE CLOCK IN AND CLOCK OUT, SO ITS COMPLICATED.

Automating the payroll should be a morale booster since it would be done mainly for the benefit of the employees. After all you wouldn't want anyone to be short changed due to a typo or mistake when calculating their pay, and everyone deserves to be treated fairly.
