White space in posts

I'm new to this forum and have found it difficult to make a post that is easily readable due to the inability to put a blank line between paragraphs etc. I understand the need to limit the length of posts but this makes posts hard to read and harder yet to write. "NEW PARAGRAPH PLEASE". I've been on many forums and this is the first I've seen like this."WHITE SPACE HERE". Aaron

Use the plain text editor. Learn to use the formatting tags. Totally forget the WYSIWYG editor. It is not your friend!

    Strange...I use WYSIWYG

    and

    do
    not
    have

    these

    issues.

The only thing I've found is that the editor will strip multiple spaces down to one. So, no double spaces between the end-of-a-line-period and the start of the following sentence.

....hmmmmm, reference this thread, posts 9 - 11:

    http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php/140384-double-space-or-single-space

And check "Settings->General Settings->Miscellaneous Options" for the selection of editor type. There are comments concerning the browser used.

So the OP's problems could be browser related?

I listened to a story about this on NPR a while ago while commuting. I couldn't wait to get home to try a single space! Now, my brain wants to do 1 space, but the little brain in my thumb defiantly makes it hit the space bar twice. Old habits die hard.

This is rapidly becoming a generational thing.

I like it when the software sorts it all out. I can just type with few worries, and I'm in the double space after period crowd for sure.

I don't like it when the software breaks or renders two space poorly, and I like it less when people complain about it all particularly while ignoring many other gaffes I would consider much worse.

Finally, I'm going to just continue with two spaces after the period. There are many more significant things to worry about.

I use the WYSIWYG myself. It works fine.

It is impossible to insert a blank line at the beginning of a post .... Oh, wait. I just did.

    Here's how.

Use "Go Advanced" and add an indented line before the first line. Add the content line first, then insert a new line and the indent.

Always use "Go Advanced" for more power like the CODE button!

You have noticed only one shows up in the post, right?

I thought the Slate article pretty convincing. I think I have finally, successfully, abandoned my erroneous and diabolical habit of using two spaces. You ought to give it a try. You'll sleep better, food tastes better and your spacebar will last longer if you give up your fiendish addiction to two spaces.

Of course. I don't mind that at all and it's covered under, "I like it when the software sorts it all out. I can just type with few worries"

If the text gets rendered single space after period, that's fine. If it gets rendered as intended, properly with double space input, and single space input, that's fine too.

I just don't want to worry about it. Doing that has extremely low value.

For most writing I see out there, the single space works, particularly with reasonable proportional fonts. In scenarios where those things aren't present, double space still rules. In written block form, double space still rules. For many legal, formal writing purposes, double space rules.

And as a generational thing, the double space will slowly fade into a niche style thing nobody but the real pedants get excited about while the rest of us just communicate nicely enough.
