Apparently that age-old diet advice is also useful for walking robot researchers, about the best place to focus their research time. :)

    Interesting. The other thing about the human gait is that it's inherently unstable. Each out-thrust leg basically catches us from falling. Let go fo the controls, and we crumble into a heap. Some two-legged robots, in order to maintain simple control systems, are designed to retain balnace at all times. This leads to a shuffling gait, similar to that of old folks with vestibular problems.

    A bit OT, but I always thought the Cornell Ranger walking robot was a clever design. A bit like a one-legged man on crutches. Very efficient, power-wise. When I get too old to run marathons, I'll make one of these to take my place.
