Telepresence at RoboBusiness: Rent-a-Bot
I think this week's RoboBusiness event in Santa Clara, CA is struggling to generate dollars, judging from the sheer volume of "hurry last chance" emails I'm receiving. A pricey conference on robotics, Wednesday-Friday. Their latest gambit is moderately interesting, renting a BEAM telepresence robot for $50 (hurry, price doubles tomorrow!) to roam the show from your home computer & webcam. I don't think it includes full access to the conference & talks. A notable effort, IMHO. Now you can hobnob with Robo-geeks while sipping a brewski in your socks & underwear if you so choose! But please wear a clean T-shirt for your webcam shots.
