Hello friends,

Today I was using my Demo Board and forgot I had never used the microphone before! This needed to be fixed. So, I went to the OBEX to see if there were/was any files for the microphone to, say, output the LEDs on board. Specifically, I have no headphones and no VGA or monitors, so the only OBEX files As I understand it the microphone is connected to the ADC pins. However I am not familiar using the ADC. After some searching I didn't find content relevant to my question. That is where I come to the community (you)! How can I use the ADC to use the microphone to light up LEDs, say based off of the loudness of the noise, or length the noise/sound is on for. Can you help me out? Anything is much appreciated.

For the first time ever, I played with the Demo board's microphone last night. I found Rayman's "Parrot" object to be a nifty starting point. It records one second of sound into the Prop's RAM (no SD card etc. needed), then plays that sound when another sound exceeds a sound threshold. Maybe it could help you get started. Odd, but I could not find "Parrot" in the OBEX to see if there were any updates. Hope this helps.

You might also try the microphone-to-VGA demo in the OBEX. http://obex.parallax.com/object/80

#2 doesn't have VGA or headphones.

I wonder how hard it would be to convert the microphone-to-VGA demo to a microphone-to-TV demo? I personally have a lot more spare TV monitors than VGA monitors.

Can't the headphone jack be used with a computer's "line in" port? I thought the headphone output was just weaker than a normal audio output. Edit: It's the other way around.

I think Phil's Goertzel object uses a TV display. You might want to try it.

Edit: The headphone jack apparently outputs a stronger signal than a PC's line in port would use. I don't know if you can get away with connecting the headphone output to a PC's audio jack or not. I think you can; just turn down the volume on the PC first. Better yet test it on an old external PC audio amp. Hopefully some of our more audio savvy forum members will comment on this.
