Reply from seller, after I asked for more details:

Hi,

Thank you for your interest. I purchased this robot from a state surplus auction with some unrelated items. I believe that it was belong to one of the state schools. It powers up, however I do not have knowledge or any other related equipment to test it further. It has some cables (two are visible) that need to be soldered to their ports, I do not see any other damage to it. There are very few web sites that explains its futures, such as http://www.anf.nildram.co.uk/beebcontrol/arms/mentor/index.html.

Could be an interesting project. i am gonna see if I can dig up anything else other than the fact that the software to run it is Basic.

Edit: Here's one on YouTube. Not the same model but it appears to be close.

Wow, if I had more free time I would definitely consider it. There's a website of old robot arms and that's one of the interesting ones.
