On the 23rd of November the 50th anniversary special edition of Dr Who will be broadcast world wide. (75 countries at least so far).

The lucky USA get's in 3D in cinemas!

To celbrate I will be hiding behind the sofa peeking at the TV like I did when the first episodes aired and the Daleks showed up.:)

If it's in cinemas in the US my kids are going to want to be there.

It's the only TV fiction I've watched since the end of Stargate.

I used to work on it during the 80's and 90's at TVC It used to be a giggle queuing up with an actor in full creature makeup and costume waiting to buy a sandwich and tea at the crush bar, as for the Daleks whenever they were in the studio we'd get a chance to get inside one and have a trundle around

So much TV and so little time. I missed nearly all of Dr. Who for some reason. It was an odd British show. Dr. Who and Monty Python have always been rather mysterious to me... illusive entertainment. It may have been that I was in college and too busy with other distractions... seems about right for a 50th aniversary.

At least I know what a Dalek is.

    Loopy,
So much TV and so little time.

Yes indeed. That is why all the way through uni we only ever watched Monty Python and Dr Who. Pretty much eliminated TV from life afterwards. Never actually bought one for myself.

Now I only have Dr Who left.

And across the pond, we faithfully gathered to watch Startrek while some whispered about Monty Python and Dr. Who.

I am still learning how different the British are. It took me 63 years to discover that steak and kidney pie had mashed potatoes in it. And I am still shocked and awed that someone would put mashed potatoes in a pie.

    Loopy,

Ah yes, you caught me out, Star Trek was compulsory viewing. At least the original series. After that not so much.

I think some one has been winding you up. Or where did you get that from? Steak and Kidney pie is a very wonderful thing and I have never seen one with mashed potato in it. Served with mashed potato perhaps but not in it. You might want to thicken the filling up with a little flour or corn starch. Perhaps some cheapskate was putting mash spud in there instead.

    Looking good.

Building one of those is on my bucket list, I figure it's a more realistic goal than a TARDIS.

K-9 Unit? Dr. Who is a tribute to low budget television successes.

I have a cousin that broke it writing for TV by having her first attempt watched by more people than the Superbowl.... She wrote "Who shot J.R.?" for Dallas.

Some people do achieve great things with next to nothing for resources.

Great! Just after 10AM local time and we're already talking food......this is going to be a rough day!!

Loopy, perhaps someone was leading you astray with Shepherd's Pie? It's a wonderful concoction (well, it IS pie, afterall!) usually covered with a layer of "mash" instead of a top crust.

    Now I'm getting hungry!

As for Dr. Who....I never got into those.
Monty Python? Yes, I got that and have always enjoyed them.
Star Trek? Of course from the first up through the latest! (except Deep Space 9 for some reason - I'll have to give them another chance.

Ah, of course. Shepherd's Pie. Not really a pie at all in some sense. But a fabulous thing. I you have just given a me a little project to be getting on with on Sunday.

I consider Shepherd's Pie a pie in the same sense I consider a lemon meringue or a cream pie a pie. It doesn't have two crusts as a traditional fruit pie or a nice mincemeat would but it is a pie in the spirit of piehood! The layer of mash is similar to the layer of meringue or whipped cream on these single crust pies.

note: I refrained from calling anything a "dessert pie" because I do not restrict pie consumption to a dessert activity.

Talking of mashed potato Dr Who used to use a lot of it made up from catering packs of "Smash" a dehydrated mash in granule form http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKt-KR1TsRg

    i
t was mixed up in huge plastic tubs on wheels with dye added (usually green)
After a day under the studio lights the smell was quite potent  mind you some of the smells from the sets actually made the sets more believable shame the viewer didn't have "smellyvision"..

Wow, Smash, I always though there must be a use for that stuff.

Brilliant commercial by the late John Webster though.
