StampDunio Product not available?

Hello!
I am in the process of rebuilding my collection of Basic Stamp hardware and eventually Prop hardware as well. (Don't ask, its too annoying and makes me want to do things I don't like to think of.)

I've already bought a BASIC Stamp HomeWork Board. And am planning on buying an unmounted BS2 and BS1 later. When I buy a BS1 it will probably be the regular carrier board for it. However for the BS2, I was originally going to buy this fellow:
http://www.parallax.com/product/27140

However it says where we would see "In Stock" when looking at something else, I see "Product Not Available".

What happened to it? Can it still be ordered? Or does this mean that its not at all available? :blank:

I am asking because when it first came out and I had all of my original hardware, that was to be my next big purchase. :thumb:

This is actually a 3rd party product. I don't know if it was ever stocked by Parallax. Look at the documentation on that webpage for Luis Ojeda's address, web address, and phone # in Chile for more information.

    Hello!
Okay I will grok that is a very good, if not an, excellent reason, and certainly worth much in time and effort. (Theirs, not yours.) It never occurred to me to check the documentation for the thing. And I believe I actually did download it once or twice before. And after some interesting games with the site, (it renders badly in Chrome and despite constantly reminding it to present itself in English, it did not) I have confirmed that it is still being made by him. However the Parallax site doesn't indicate that it is a third-party board.

I hate to pick nits, but both of those stores are selling the thing for pricing that's slightly higher then both our host, and its maker. Now if definitely necessary I shall probably buy it from Jameco as I've been working how to populate a big order from them for the entire year so far. But the BS2 would be bought locally. And that's going to be Microcenter. They're also selling the larger display that I described in my article on the serial display issues.

The StampDuino (#27140) is actually a discontinued product and is unfortunately no longer for sale through Parallax.

To avoid further confusion, the product page for the StampDuino has now been removed from the store, and downloads for this product will still be available in the Downloads section of Parallax.com.

    Thank you,
    Courtney J

    Hello!
Thank you Courtney, that does solve one problematic point. However why was it discontinued? It is however available from three dealers, the maker(!), and the two Erco found. And do you mean discontinued by Parallax? Or by its maker(!)? Interestingly enough it claims to be a special order via one of the North American based dealers. Special order that is, is that their usual methods regarding returning something is not applicable to it.

Oh and yes of course, you're welcome Erco.

What bothers me is that it is a unique board, and in a form factor that I find more interesting then say the other boards available for the BS2, and it should be restored to the inventory, unless however the maker(!) did indeed discontinue it. (Which is difficult discern from a website that is poorly written and designed.) :frown:

Nah, this is a different problem and a different discussion, and besides a different day of the week.

    Hi Buck,

Yes, the StampDuino is no longer available for sale through Parallax. That's what we meant by discontinued. At Parallax we try to bring in products from outside vendors that we think our customers will like, but unfortunately, not all products end up being well received by our customers and we end up having to discontinue them. Unfortunately, this was the case with the StampDuino.

Hopefully you can still pick one up from one of the other resellers you mentioned.

    Hello!
Okay. Now I do indeed grok your position, and of course Courtney. However one last question, and then we're done. Does this mean that the firm is completely out of inventory? I've found that some vendor despite insisting that something was discontinued they do indeed happen to have some in stock. Incidentally the emphasis or italics are mine. If you choose to not answer then that's okay as I said here, we're done. If need be a private message is also acceptable.

@Buck: Parallax is generous to a fault, especially when people are polite and appreciative. If they had one squirreled away, you would have heard about it by now. Continuing to ask the same question in the same tone is unlikely to bear fruit.

Google is your new best friend if you're still determined to track one down. Have you tried http://shop.amcnano.com/StampDuinoStandalone-2800.htm ?

BR, Although Parallax has discontinued the item, the other sellers are still carrying them. Parallax is in Business to make money and if they were to purchase a large quantity of the item and no one buys them then they are out the money they invested. It's a matter of supply and demand in this case and the product was not moving, therefore the decision to discontinue them.

    Hello!
Relax erco take a look at what I posted. As far as I am concerned the matter is solved. (and done). However the chance that there are one or two left does still make sense and hold up then I did give the gang there an easy out. If not then as I said I'm done. And so is this issue. (Next response is the last.)

    Hello!
No problem fellow, as far as I am concerned the issue is definitely done, but given the way the circumstances turn out there is an easy out provided. If I don't get that then fine I'll pursue buying one from that vendor.

And now guys we are really done.

    Hi Buck,

Yes we are truly, completely out of stock. We discontinued the product in early September, after our supplies had fully run out.
