I ditched my amps many years ago in favour of Guitar Rig / Amplitube and a VST host. MUCH better way to go, IMO.
The problem with this mechanical system is that once you've laid-down the track with a given mic position....you're stuck with it! With plug-ins, you can change the amp model, cab model, mic model/position, etc., without needing to do a re-take.
Works well in a live scenario also, as you only have to hit a MIDI foot-switch to change an entire patch without having to fiddle around with little knobs on the effect pedals.
