I'm amazed at what they say they cost when you look at how small and simple looking they are.

That little Throwbot is more like a disposable toy, the bulk of that $40K had to be in the bigger treaded bot, which sure looks a lot like iRobot's Packbot. No wonder iRobot whas been so diligent in prosecuting patent infringements on Packbot. That's a military robot and I'm sure there is a lot of money changing hands behind the scenes.

I hope nobody in my local police department reads that article, or they'll be wanting one of those bomb-handling bots, too. Yesterday, there was a "police action" downtown, streets were cordoned off, multiple emergency vehicles were deployed, and emails went out from the county Emergency Management Coordinator to avoid the area. 'Went to the bank later, and asked what the kerfuffle was about. "Unidentifed abandoned package," was the answer. It turned out to be a sandbag, presumably left over from the weekend Film Festival and -- I'm guessing -- used to anchor the inflatable outdoor movie screen. Sheesh!

5 words for Ken & PhiPi to ponder: Wild Thumper Bomb Disposal Robot

Could be a serious source of income. That video looks like the bomb disposal robot simply fires a gun at a suspected bomb to detonate it. How dangerous could a live weapon on a robot be? :)

BTW, no one was harmed by my latest live-fire Terminator robot. Yet.

The Alameda county sheriff's department is lobbying to buy drones. Their big selling point is looking for lost senior citizens. Um... yeah, like that's a =huge= problem in the county... hordes of lost, old folks wandering around constantly. =:-|

What the bleep, it looks like someone hacked my "Patent Pending" folder!!!!
    lost senior citizens
Shortly after the release of Viagra in Phoenix they found those same senior citizens, in the parks.

I don't think it is a gun to set off the bomb. The ones I have seen use a super fast and strong blast of water to distroy the detanotor before it can set off the Bomb.
