Duplex Communication between two XBee nodes

I am working with 2 Xbee+Arduino nodes for this time being. I am using Xbee series 1 and Arduino UNO.
Scenario: One node (A, connected with PC) will query to another node (B, connected with a temp sensor) for available sensor data. After getting the command from A, B will send the data to A. Usually we saw that if two Xbee are communicating, receiver is getting whatever the transmitter is sending in real time. But here I want to establish a network where B will not (Or can not) send any data unless being commanded from A. I need a little suggestion on how to start this. If someone already has done this work, help or suggestion would be highly appreciated.
Looking forward to get some idea on the matter mentioned.
