This Knight Rider style scanner was done using the Basic Stamp 2 micro controller:

    Welcome to the forums!

Here is a LED example using 74HC595 shift registers and only three pins on the BS2

Here is one I made using only 4 wires (Charlieplex) but the mcu is a Freescale 9RS08KA2

Nice PWM, fellas! Lots of Knight Rider LEDs on YT. Here's mine (non PWM) using 3 uC pins and a 3-8 line decoder. 7 LEDs and a piezo beeper, which caused the phantom flashing.

    Some nice work there.
It seems that the Knight Rider and Cylon effects are very popular these days.
Here is my Cylon Red Eye, also using a BS2 micro controller:

I love LED sequencers! Here's one I did:

And here's one I built for my truck dash using a BS1:

This thread is starting to expand into other LED flashing, blinking and scanning items :)
Here is another prop using the BS2:

    TRON Disc

Hi PJ Allen, welcome to my thread.

    Note:
I've been working with electronics most my life (since high school) and I tend to use discreet electronic components to make things work.
I was very reluctant to change how I did things. I was familiar with the PIC but never learned the language. Until I was introduced to the Basic Stamp 2. I really like how this little micro controller works and seldom build a hero, working prop without one. I know there are other micro controllers in use these days, but as usual, I am reluctant to making any changes since the BS2 works very well for my current needs.
Since I am new to the forum and the BS2 has been around a long time, I just wanted to show what I managed to use it for in a Parallax Basic Stamp Forum .
The sad part is, I know longer have the original program codes since the laptop that contained the software and code is gone.
Thank goodness I still had the original software and loaded it to a different laptop.
Thanks all for looking, I hope you enjoyed :)

P.S. All the other posts showed some real ingenuity. Thanks for sharing.

@PJ: Of course! Even LIFE is a contest. Can you compete?

Judging by his videos, I would say PJ's answer is yes!

Nice! Everybody loves blinkies! As Jerry Lee Lewis said, "That's a Whole Lotta Blinking Going On!"

    Thanks erco,

Since my thread has kind of evolved a bit away from KITT, Cylon and TRON (to other things that blink), here is another item designed around the BS2:
These are both used in the same prop.

XLNT! Now here's a little something that me & the boys whipped up at work a few years ago. My twins are four now, and they rule the roost!

A neat thread! I built this some time ago testing some ideas for a project (I forget what it was now :-> )
Put together on one of the older Prop Demo boards using a Radio Shack 10 segment bar graph. Not a Stamp driving it, but it is a kind of Cylon Rider flashy thing! ;-)

These cheesy lightsabers would benefit from a blinking LED or two! Thumbs down as delivered.

This PWM blossom is my fave. I bought a giant bag of 5mm low-current red LEDs to make one like this.

Love all of the Knight Rider style LED posts. Back in the day I did something similar on my car in the front grill, only my Knight Rider style LED was mechanically driven..... Reed relays and a magnet baby !!!

This was created as a security entry device for a sci-fi short film:
(I think there's an ''app'' for that now - no more blinky lights these days).
