    RFID tags would help. The other sensors will tell you that *something* is there, but not what.

    Maybe there is some way to scale erco's terminator? What could go wrong?

    I kinda thought maybe putting a high-powered CO2 laser on the gun might provide some audible clues. When the laser hits a person and the person screams, you could identify the scream as perhaps friend or foe. I guess you'd need to memorize a library of friend screams, though, so you don't actually shoot one of your loved ones by mistake. You might also need to memorize some scream signatures from the local police, too, in case they're coming in to help you when they respond to a 911 call. Once this gets working, it could open up a whole new market.
