Sensor's amazing power source range

I bought a couple of these Photoelectric Reflective IR beam sensors for my alarm system.
They work up to 35 feet but the amazing feature IMHO is that they can be powered by 24-240AC or 12-240DC.
Wonder what kind of circuit allows such a wide range of power source?
