DIY Quad, Will this work?

I got this setup a few years ago on a trade. I have tested it out and all the servos work the way they are suppose to using the radio. I have been thinking about building my own Quad or Hex and I need to know if this would be a fair radio to start out with or if it would even be useable for this purpose. It is a 6 Channel FM Xmtr/Rcvr. I know it is quite old but I want to try and build a quad or hex using as many on hand components as possible.

A six channel radio is fine for the qaudcopter, whether it be old 72Mhz or the new 2.4Ghz. Either one should be fine.

Thanks Publison. When I get around to getting all the parts together that is one less thing I need to worry about.

Should probably work, but an older analog RC unit is more susceptable to interference. One crash might set you back more than the cost of a newer 2.4 Ghz RC unit with digital electronics and binding. http://rctohobbyblog.com/how-to-bind-2-4ghz-rc-transmitter-and-receiver

I am really just in the "thinking about it" mode right now. If I do in fact decide to do this I will only be using this one to get it going. I just want to start out trying to use what I have on hand.
