BST on Windows 8 Problem

I'm trying to setup BST on a client's Dell inspiron 15 notebook computer that has windows 8.

When I run the bst.exe I see the splash screen, it goes away but the editor screen never comes up.

The program stays running, but there is no display.

Has anyone else had this problem ?
Does anyone know what might be the problem ?

Thanks,
Bean

Yes. Your client is running Windows 8. Can you "downgrade" it to Windows 7? I'm sure your client will be very thankful, sending you Christmas gift baskets and pictures of their children from now 'til college graduation.

I had been using BST on my Win XP desktop for some time but recently re-installed XP because of a PC crash - now I have exactly the same problem that Bean describes and haven't found a solution yet - I'm glad this is being discussed and am sure someone out there knows the solution. Belated thanks, by the way, to Bean for his magnificent PropBasic.

The solution is to use SimpleIDE instead.
SimpleIDE uses the same compiler, BSTC, so there should be no loss funtionality.

No one is maintaining BST anymore so these problems will keep piling up until it's unusable.

Not that it helps you, but it works fine on my widows 8 laptop.

Have you looked in the Tasl Manager to see if more than one instance of BST is running? I have seen this issue with other programs but not BST. Simply ending task on all but one will resolve if that is the issue. If not, try what T Chap suggested. If it works in Safe mode maybe try right clicking and slecting 'Run As Admiistrator". If that does not work maybe change to XP compatibility mode. If all else fails, do a COMPLETE uninstall. Which means verifying the directory it was installed in is gone and use Regedit to search for and delete anything that was left behind. When you run the installation program right click and select "Run As Administrator". Let me know if any of these suggestions work. I have a Web Based Support site that I have clients submit problems to and when I find a solution I enter it in the Database so I always have the answers to previous issues.

Thanks for all the help guys.
I found out that for some reason it would start minimized and wouldn't restore when you clicked on in in the task bar.
If I started it, then pressed ALT-Space I could maximized it. From then on it would start fine.
    Weird...

If only SimpleIDE supported PropBasic, I'd use it in a heartbeat.
