This seems like it would be a real winner for hobby/educational useage.

...and I want one.. :)

I'm just ordering a Quickstart Add-on pcb for this 4x4 (they are coming out with a 16x16 in 2-3 months)

It got a onboard 16bit mcu, that sends a frame 4 times a sec over i2c.

But the Panasonic seems nice and same price, so I will make a pcb for that one too.

Digi-Key made me fill out some end use form when I tried to but a GridEye sensor. "Detecting elderly who may have fallen to the floor" wasn't a good enough reason apparently. They wouldn't let me purchase any sensors.

What about trying "Intrusion Prevention". With Security a huge issue these days I bet they would go for that. Send me a link and I will give it a shot. Maybe since I am in the Video Surveillance Business they will bite.If so I can order some and send you how ever many you need.

That's the problem with these thermal array sensors: you can't build a general-purpose module, because it puts an arm's length between the manufacturer/distributor and the end-user. The manufactureres/distributors are bound either by end-use agreements with licensees or by governmental security and export restrictions (think heat-seeking missiles).
