Heya folks,

Have any of you attempted to use a Galaxy III (or similar) cell phone with a USB OTG cable to get serials comms rolling with a quickstart board? I'd really like to do this, but have no idea where to begin. Is it even possible?

I'd consider going the Bluetooth route with those inexpensive modules. I've had much success with this, and there are many good program/terminal apps you can install on your Galaxy which will interface with it.

Here's just a little of what I've done with them.

Jeff- wow, that's great!! :) I'll try to get a couple of those order soon. I'm hoping to get this OTG cable thing working, simply because I already have it and if it's doable I don't need to change any programming on the quickstart. Time'll tell I reckon.

Either way, the bluetooth module is something I'll definitely start playing with soon. Thanks!

Update- I got the USB OTG cable at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=0S8-0013-003N9 and it works very well. I've connected to the quickstart using two different apps on my Galaxy III and haven't had a problem. If you're used to using parallax serial terminal driver you might consider changing to a different serial driver to eliminate an occasional "junk" character showing up on screen, but other than that I've seen no problems.

One thing that's driving me nuts is the quickstart and board of education resets when you connect the usb cable. I power the quickstart with a separate 3.3 source and was hoping I could plug in and see what's rolling on the terminal. But no matter what, it always reboots. Is there a way to overcome this?
