Picked up the 2x16 Serial LCD (backlit, with speaker) #27977-RT this weekend. I don't even need it, but it is hard to pass up at $9.97. The piezo speaker is a nice addition over the old versions. Only one Radio Shack within 50 miles had any, and it just happened to be on the route that I needed to drive on Saturday.
I just bought a Parallax 29133-RT 3-Axis Compass Module this weekend for $9.97 and now its listed at $4.99!! Everything on clearance got another price slash! Hopefully the nearby RS that has the XBee kit for $19.99 will still have it by Friday since that is the next day I can make it to that store!

Ok!!! I picked 2 more LCDs (for a total of 8) amd another GPS module reduced to $9.98. There were a few more LCDs but I resisted... barely!
OK, Ron wins. Clearly I'm too busy watching Barbie and Disney princess DVDs with my twins to be uber-competitive in the Shack's clearance roundup. At least I was able to get a few trinkets to keep me busy...
Missed out on a $10 GPS tonite, but I nabbed another LCD for just $5 now and these other deals:
Velleman Kits:
$5.97 Pic Programmer, USB interface
$2.97 FM radio, TV pong game, metal detector & LED Xmas tree
Tankbot $6.97
Hexbug Larva $4.97
At these ridiculous fire sale prices, it's really starting to feel like the Shack is on the verge of going under. Of course they still have $7 watch batteries and lots of cell phones to bail them out.
They might be going under, but, some how, I have spent more money at Radio Shack in the past two weeks then I have in ten years...
Like I really need five LCD displays...Wait, never mind that,
I now own a PIC Microcontroller Programmer, good thing it included the PIC chip...Like I really need to learn assembly...Never mind that either..
My point is, I think this must be some kind of super sales tactic, because I really have spent more at the Shack then I ever have before...
I got me a $4 Make-Your-Own-Teeth kit. An $8 steal on a Turn-A-Tractor-Tire-into-a-Flower-Garden unit. And a 100-in-1 Make-Anything-into-Moonshine clearance item. Who says Radio Shack doesn't cater to local needs?
Added to my must-buy-cuz-its-on-sale shelf tonite :
2x Parallax compass modules $4.99
1x Parallax altimeter module $9.98
RS resistor asst/plastic tackle box $6.98
RS capacitor asst/plastic tackle box $5.98
RS LED asst /plastic tackle box $5.99
RS switch asst/plastic tackle box $7.98
Hexbug Nano in Christmas ornament $2.76 (several in different colors)
Nibbling tool $3.98
6V 50 mA Solar cell $2.08
And yes, I did leave some stock in the store for other kids. Must play nice and share!
BTW, it seems like the Radio Shack "find it in a store near me" website search feature only works for a 5-mile radius no matter what distance you select. I keyed in several nearby zip codes and got wildly different results.
Erco I have the same issue with the search. There are 6 Radio Shacks within 50 miles of me and if I do 50 miles I usually don't see much. I key in the zip code of the city 40 miles away with 4 Radio Shacks and I almost see something different. I also wonder how accurate those searches are. How often the database is updated with what is scanned at the register?

They told me the numbers are only updated every 24 hours.
Does Radio Shack then ship the remaining stock to the jobber who runs their Ebay store?
An additional question..I have noted that Radio Shack removes SKUs of discontinued items from their website quickly...leaving the customer no option of determining if any exist in any store. Why do they do that? It would seem counter to their efforts to downsize their SKU count.

Or get it for the same price on the Shack's Ebay site with free shipping! http://www.ebay.com/itm/RadioShack-HT-204-Nibbling-Tool-zCL-11724289-/360723369950?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53fcc9cfde
I haven't looked, but there may be other RS clearance stuff with free ship on Ebay. Oops, forget I said that until I get first dibs...
These are not clearance, but you will need something to nibble. I used one for a compact audio amp a few months ago - very nice.
Curse you for tempting me to search 14,695 items.
I felt sorry for the last serial LCD hanging on the wall so I brought home to join the other five.
NOBLE is the only word to describe your actions, Ron. Keeping that orphaned family together is of paramount importance.
Of course, now I must find TWO more to one-up your nobleness.
It's not a competition (is it?!?) - Besides you need to put some money in the kids college fund!
$10 clearance "Sensors Lab" if you can find one near you. Nothing in Los Angeles near me!
Or pay $50 on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/RadioShack-28-0026-Electronics-Learning-Lab-New-W-ON-Package-/321206849689?pt=Educational_Toys_US&hash=item4ac96b9099#ht_140wt_917
erco, where do you store all of your electronic "wins"? Are you able to park your cars in the garage?
Ultimately, whenever I restore it, all my treasures will be functional accessories, and 67CVX will be a rolling repository of all things high tech.
Assuming there's still gasoline available that far into the future...

Relax erco!
Success or failure is probably more related to how many Chinese households thrive due to your eBay purchases - so you pass the test, I'm sure.
I check them as soon as soon as I get home.
Plus I've got one GPS working with a BS2P and LCD and the other GPS working with a propeller and PST
Two are mounted in Hammond projects boxes and one in a temporary cardboard box

Hmmm! Went back to get 3 remaining LCDs but only one was left. I told a friend about them last night so maybe he got some.
Figured what the heck, so I grabbed the LCD and a Panavise 301 too - 68% off.
2 nibblers.
loads of cables
and a inductive charging WIImote set .
Ya know I never looked IN the bins ..... I better go back and look .
This is the only reason why I still shop there. Because when everything is closed or it's a Sunday...The Shack is still open.
