Newport linear stage 850?

Hi All,

Has anyone tried to control a Newport linear stage, for example the 850F or 850G?

The motion controllers intended to control those stages are large and expensive, I'd prefer using a propeller :-)

Greetings,
Karel

I don't see any reason why you couldn't use a Propeller to control the Newport motors. The datasheet I looked at had the pinouts listed. It looks like it uses a DC motor with quadrature encoder and two limit switches. All could be controlled and monitored with a Propeller.

I don't know of any drop in software solutions but all the parts have been done before. My Mecanum wheeled robot uses quadrature feedback to maintain speed of a DC motor and there's a CNC project which uses limit switches (it uses stepper motors not DC).

    Hi Duane,
Yes, it seems certainly possible, I was just wondering if some already did it and could assist me with some code?
I will certainly have a look at your mecanum robot :-)

    Greetings,
    Karel
