    Well the price is low, so you shouldn't need expect much. But in my opinion it looks underpowered. The main RAM really should be around 1 GB. The screen resolution is low and for a screen that big it won't look good. The resolution on the front facing camera isn't good either. Most tablet are using at least a Tegra 2 which is three years old, and a Tegra 3 is common.

    I just got a refurb Amazon Kindle Fire off Ebay for $97 for the wife and I'm very impressed with it. Quite frankly, it makes my orphaned Nook tablet look sick by comparison. The screen is amazing, bright and clear from any angle. I think the screen quality (for these aging eyes) makes all the difference on a 7" tablet. Great crashproof browser. No camera or SD card though. Gotta live with the built-in 8 GB.

    Unless your $67 tablet comes with glowing reviews and/or a satisfaction guarantee, I'd say stick with a name brand, even if it costs a bit more. As they say, you get what you pay for.

    Edit: Just reread and saw the OP is talking about a 9" tablet. Every inch is significant, so it may be worth considering if the display is high quality. Proceed cautiously! :)

    @erco,

    Considering one of these as a gift for a young someone who has demonstrated both a love for reading and the ability to take excellent care of one of those cheapo walmart readers when she can loose almost everything else. Is that Kindle Fire capable of Internet surfing/youtube and can it be uploaded with .txt and .pdf books? Something of a review from you on these features would be awesome.

    Thanks!
    Jeff

    Yes on all counts per http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Fire-Amazon-tablet/dp/B0083Q04IQ. I have only tried the browser and a few apps so far, but I'll verify pdf & text in a day. Movie files too.

    I have a Kindle Fire and I also have txts and pdfs on mine. Most 3rd party android apps will work on it as well. I mainly use mine to view old TV series that are available for free on my Prime account. As mentioned the drawbacks are limited memory, no camera, and no blue tooth.

    Any ideas on adding bluetooth, a serial to which we could connect an HC05/HC06?

    Yea, I kind of figured it would be slow, which is why I asked first. Thanks for all the input. BTW, I bought my wife the Kindle Fire for Christmas in 2011. She loves it since she reads quite a bit and likes the fact that she can have all her books in one place without taking up space. I also set up our Netflix account on it and it is kind of nice to be able to watch movies while waiting at an airport for our next flight. I know this can be done with a laptop, but they are too big and bulky to haul around just for that. I have heard great things about the Kindle Fire HD also but I will wait on that until the price drops.

    This 9-in tablet is both cheaper and looks to be a step up from the $99 Android tablets of yore, but if that was any indication the real fly in the ointment would be battery life. Those cheap tablets were useless mainly because the battery would not last much more than an hour, and not much more than three with the device OFF.
