Freelance work

Hello,

Im wondering where an old guy can dig up some freelance work. How do some of you do it and where do I find such work? I have been engineering printed circuit boards for over ten years now and wish to just do side work - is there a place I can join? Does the parallax community need a few simple boards made?

Anyways I'm new here but have used parallax products for years. Nice site.

Hold on!! We all need work! Stand in line!

    Just kidding. :)

Welcome to the forums. There are people looking for board layout from time to time. Just keep visiting.

I figure out unexplored opportunities. There's zillions. Its one in a million that you'll get rich, but its better odds than the lottery.

If you can make a prop board with FTDI, 3.3 v, 5v, , crystal, 64k eeprom, two uln2003, a 10k resistor, and a 40 pin female for less than the price of a quickstart and the separate components (quickstart and mounter ULN2003),, we should talk. :) This is my present need.

What I have seen a lot of people do is to come up with an idea, build a prototype and then post about it on the Forums to see what others think and if they would want one. You could also get a general idea of what people want just by asking, but IMO it is best to have a prototype done first and then maybe expand on it after you receive input from Forum members. Many people are anxiously awaiting the next "Great" invention.

Do you have any examples that you can post? Screenshots of the PCB layout and/or schematics would be helpful.

I didn't see anything like it on the Parallax site but Adafruit has this http://www.adafruit.com/jobs/

This may be possible. / hardly /

I did not anticipate so many responses so quickly. Thanks.

Even if you can not manufacture such a board, how about just designing it? There's a guy out here doing an open source pick and place, maybe he will manufacture the boards.

It might a good opportunity to show off your skillz, and a ton of people would (possibly) use it.

Folks tell me the prop boards are very simple, even so the design is beyond my ability.

The wait is almost over and worth the wait IMHO! :)

If you've got a nifty idea of your own, you might consider making a prototype and putting it on kickstarter.com (or something like it) to get some backing and save the world.

What if I could make this for slightly under the price of the quickstart, how many do you want, what size and are you serious? I think I its possible to do and could have a few hundred ready in a month or less.

It really boils down to more than the board design. If you want to match prices with a manufacturer you're going to need to also match their support, shipping and of course marketing to sell it all. I don't know what you're into but to me the board making is fun, the rest I can do without.
