Hey there,

We started this design process almost a year ago with Futaba, and now we have them: High-Speed Continuos Rotation Servos!

In stock, ready to order. And yes, they'll also be on the Propeller ActivityBot to be released this Fall.

    Did erco make this video?

No ercos were used in this video.

They're 3x faster than the standard continuous rotation servo.

You're in for some challenges unless you use encoders, and a Propeller. Some sort of feedback is necessary for BS2 robots, either line following, edge following, etc because it'll be hard to match RPMs using pulse widths.

On the ActivityBot they'll work perfectly.

@ Ken Gracey, I placed my order today for 2 each along with a bunch of other needed items. I am not sure if I will use them to drive my Bot or not, have yet to decide that. I have other uses for them but I may go with stepper motors instead. Should I decide to use them on my Bot, which encoders do you recommend? I have a couple of Prop Boe boards and may upgrade my BS2 Boe Bot with one of them in the near future. Also, I had a REALLY hard time steering away from and not adding the Wild Thumper to my cart today. I am seriously considering splurging for one before years end. Have you sold many of them and have you received any feedback, positive and or negative that I should know about?

Propeller ActivityBot to be released this Fall.
    For reallys???
With a genuine Propeller an everything?? Plus it's 3X times faster than a BOE bot??
Will it have wheel encoders built in? can it do a figure 8??:thumb:

    This I gotta see.

Where did the Spark near the end of the video, falling on the ground come from?
    Just Wondering.

Maybe those Servos in the video were from beta testing?
But, perhaps I should ask.. For how long will they be 3X faster??? :)

I think they attached a sparkler to that really high speed BoeBot! Ha!

    Ken,

On the You-tube Video itself we need to have a link to the product page.

Uh oh. High speed over accuracy... and power? Is this the same "standard" size servo with less gearing? 3X speed sounds like they lost one gear. All nylon gears or metal?

I'll reserve judgement until I see the ActivityBot working perfectly as promised. Is it faster than S2?

Beau's signature: Asked about the ramifications of his discoveries, Hertz replied, "Nothing, I guess." Hertz also stated, "I do not think that the wireless waves I have discovered will have any practical application."

Thus, Heinrich directed his energies into car rental. His rental cars had no radios in them.

These appear nice, but what about models with higher torque? any plans tu release stronger ones?

I could see how these would be great for line following contests where speed is of the essence.

This will be a nice upgrade for the LittleRobot!

Specs at http://www.parallax.com/product/900-00025 read 6-8V. That's higher than regular servos, right? If so, it's nearly perfect for a 7.4V LiPo battery. But those can be 8.2-8.4V fully charged. We still good?

And these are still analog servos, correct? With 4,643 pieces in stock, I suppose Parallax plans to sell these for a long time.

They work perfect with a fully charged 7.2V LiPo battery, They are Analog, and they do move faster than an S2 for sure.
I'm pretty sure they could handle 12V for at least five minutes, or more...

In my tests, 6V doesn't quite give oyu the speed/torque advantage you'll want to win a line following contest. These really need 7.5-8 volts.

They do achieve their speed through gearing. You'll note the rated torque is less than the standard servo, though the HS ones have some weird spec that says "22 +/-11 oz-in." Doesn't sound right -- the torque may vary from 11 to 33 oz/in at the tested 7.4V?

I have an activity bot that I haven't put together yet, just pawed through the box, and did not know it had high speed servos until I saw this thread. With Robothon only 6 weeks away I better get busy! Either that or sneak the high speed servos into the line follower I already have. I'll bet I see several of these entered in competition this year. The Parallax Boe-Bots and Mini-Sumobots are the most numerous of our line following, line maze and mini-sumo entrants.
