Basic Stamp Editor and S2

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but is the S2 compatible with the Basic Stamp Editor? I attempted to connect, but it would not find the S2 with the USB-Serial Adapter connected to a desktop. I thought that textual programming with the S2 required SPIN with the Propeller tool. Am I wrong?

    The red S2 is Propeller-based, the blue Scribbler is Stamp 2 based.

    You can use the Propeller Tool, or the S2 GUI, using a Serial/USB adapter.
