Soldering problems

I'm having problems soldering the new led strips by parallax. My guess is I'm doing it totally wrong and these aren't supposed to be soldered. (probably because the solder doesn't want to "stick") So, any ideas? :)

Plastic residue on the pads (waterproofing removed)? Using a flux? Iron hot? Good music on?

In that case, may I mention NOT use plumbing flux. I had a big tub of plumbing flux, this is how I learned it doesn't wash off easily, conducts, and continues to eat everything long after the project is completed. Flux for electronics is different, its worth getting the right one.

Yes, just as you should only use rosin core solder for electronics. Acid core solder for plumbing isn't done.
