date format

Can I change the date format used in this forum? I always get confused when I see a date like '06-05-2013' - is that June 5, 2013 or 6th May 2013?

Where I am it is custom to use dd-mm-yyyy, not mm-dd-yyyy. The least confusing and most international would be to use yyyy-mm-dd, or to include the name of the month e.g. 'June 26, 2013'. Same thing with time format, I prefer a 24 hr clock to am/pm.

I cannot find any preferences in my user settings.

I can only second that. It looks like VBulletin-based forums don't have settings for date/time formats, which is very VERY unfortunate.

I peeked into both your accounts at the moderator level and indeed found nothing that might allow a personalized setting for time and date format.

More than likely a VBulletin "limitation".

There may be something useful located at a deeper level from which I'm restricted...

In phpBB it is possible to customise the date/time format. Both phpBB and vBulletin are written in PHP so I assume it must be possible in vBulletin as well.

Maybe just checking a box, or adding a line in >My settings>My Account>Date & Time Options would make it possible...

If everybody used yyyy-mm-dd (i.e. proper MSB/LSB order), there wouldn't be any confusion about which is the day and which is the month. 'Just saying...

I fully agree, like they do in Sweden... but most of the world uses dd-mm-yyyy, The USA are the odd ones using mm-dd-yyyy.

I was on a business trip in France some years ago, and the agent at the rental car counter told me, "Oh, your license is expired". About the time I was through processing that, he said, "Never mind. I forgot you Americans do it backward.". This was in July, I believe, and my license was good until my birthday, Sept. 6. So the license said 09-06-xxxx; he initially thought it had expired on June 9th.

Not all "Americans", only those in the USA.
    the license said 09-06-xxxx.
That's why mine would say "09 JUN 2015", no ambiguity.

I always have to remember that when you 'Americans' mention "9/11"... then I think "Was that in November?".

Anyway, I hope that a supermoderator can supply the customise option.

And if it's possible to do something about it then please please give us the option to fix the time format too.. the non-English world basically works on 24 hour insert missing English term for time interval covering day+night.. :) - as it is I must scan the new post lists at least twice to make sure I understand when the last post was.

I support this suggestion: please give us the option to change time and date format.
