TWI based clarification

Hi.,
As we want connect the AT32UC3A3 controller and LTC2941 IC using I2C Interface.
Then we configure that Speed and Address and complete m hardware connection.
But we cannot able to read the Internal registers exact Values?
Because we need a 3C value from the Control register but that gives 0X81 only?
where occurs error?
please guide me.
