Manufacturer refurb ("mint"), 7" screen, I had to grab one for the wife: http://www.ebay.com/itm/370837063255

No camera, mic, BT, 3G or GPS, but a solid review: http://reviews.cnet.com/tablets/amazon-kindle-fire/4505-3126_7-35022491.html

While that inexpensive, I'm not a big fan of the Kindle Fire. Amazon forked the Android OS at 2.3 and Google is now at 3.2, so it is starting to be on the old side.

Nook tablets frequently going on the sale for $149, and offer much better specs, such as full hd display, MicroSD slot, and with recent CM development - USB OTG support too.

    *Sigh*

    Doesn't ship to Norway...
(Amazon doesn't want us to have these, either... )

I have a Nook tablet (using it now). Quite nice, but it will soon be an orphan. B &N is getting out of the tablet/e-reader business. Amazon won that battle, so Nooks might get even cheaper in the future.

I'm not really up on Android tablets, so I don't know if the specs on this one are worthy (seems to have a short working time) but here's one that runs Android 4.0, has a camera and WiFi. No BT, so I wonder of this would be a good candidate for interfacing to my Propeller projects...

    What do you think?

I got one 3weeks ago for $68, now it's $90 but another deal maybe in a month or so or try to find coupon code?

It's pretty good, I wish it was lighter as it hard to hold up with one hand.

An alternative is the Acer Iconia B1 at $98 new.

(Picked one up at a local store last friday. Plastic, a bit slow, and not the best of screens, but it works.)

I really like this Kindle Fire. Beautiful screen, browser doesn't crash like my Nook's does (lame, no wonder B&N lost the tablet battle). The only thing I don't like is the limited video formats, only MP4 & VP8 . Ironically, that $29 Walmart iTomic e-reader played nearly every video format!

In another thread, someone asked about supported file formats for this first-gen Kindle Fire. From http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=200729530#recognize :

    Supported File Types

Kindle Fire supports multiple file types that are free of digital rights management software. These types of files may be transferred to your Kindle Fire via USB:
•Documents: AZW, TXT,PDF, MOBI, PRC, DOC, DOCX
•Audio supported within Music: MP3, Non-DRM AAC (.m4a), MIDI, OGG, WAV
    •Images: JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP
    •Video: MP4, VP8

Mobipocket files that have Digital Rights Management (DRM) protection applied are unable to read on your Kindle Fire. If you purchased a Mobipocket file from a Mobipocket retailer, you will not be able to open the file on your Kindle Fire.

EPUB ebooks are not supported on Kindle Fire.

You can add any of the listed documents file types to your Kindle Fire without using the Kindle Personal Documents Service to convert those files to a compatible type. If it is not listed above, conversion would be necessary to read the file on your Kindle Fire.
