Hi all, I am looking to purchase some spare parts for my Stingray. Anybody have any sensor plates or other parts they would like to part with?

Thanks

There should be quite a few out there...we gave away remaining stock at the 2013 Official Propeller Expo. There was a whole box of sensor plates.

Does that mean the Stingray will be officially "gone" once the last 7 sell? :frown:

I'm afraid so...we've had supplier issues on important parts such as the motors and even the metal, so it's becoming difficult to maintain as a product as you may have noticed from previous delays.

So are they going to be at closeout prices?

They have been @ $50 off for quite some time. 33% is a pretty good closeout price considering Parallax's margin and production costs and such.

Mindrobots is correct. They're priced to move and still a good platform for almost any microcontroller system.

Yea, I know. You can't blame a guy for trying!!! If there are any left when my next monthly electronics budget is available I might have to get one.

Also, if you look on our website, you'll see we've added a couple of new robot platforms to help fill the gap. There is the Wild Thumper Robotics Kit and the Dagu Rover 5 Tracked Robot Chassis
    with Encoders.

That sad news about another orphan is far too significant to be buried in this thread! How about an official Parallax EOL announcement in the forum, note on the Stingray page, and cross-listing on the discontinued page ASAP? You only show 5 units remaining, I suspect loyal Stingray owners may snap those up quickly once the news gets out.

As you recall, I didn't take the "Servopal Gone" surprise very well!

Bummer! I like my Stingray very much... Looks like BaneBots will still have Wheels and mounts.

I even ordered some Chinese lower speed higher torque motors ala erco!

Attached is a photo of my last Stingray mod...

Nice bot, Whit+! Looks like your Stingray stand is a little taller than the peanut butter jar lid you sent me for my S2! :)

    Hello Whit,

Where did you get the handles to mount in front that help protect the ping sensors? I would like to add a set to my robot as well.

That is a bummer about the kit being discontinued. I was going to use that Stingray base in a robot that I was going to write up for SERVO. If they aren't going to be available then I may have to use something else.

McMaster Carr - Stole the idea from Chris - http://www.mcmaster.com/#cabinet-handles/=n4grlj

    G
et the size you need in the finish you want. They are really small - but work great.

These work really well as Grommets in the center hole - http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/_/N-8gd5a?itemIdentifier=102870_621472_2826_

Nobody will be more sad to see the Stingray go than me. :frown:

    Robert

As Whit mentioned, I used those handles on the Beta version of the Stingray to protect the PING))) sensors and they worked quite well. My original intention was to include them in the kit but since we didn't include the PING))) sensors, the guards weren't added to the BOM. Still, I think the members here that have Stingray robots and have modded them will help keep their memory alive!

Here are some small 59-cent handles on clearance that might work for you. 4-40 holes on 1.25" centers

I found another source for a rubber grommet for the Stingray. Its $3.99 at Homedepot, has 2 large grommets that are a close fit to the large center hole in the stingray chassis, comes with several other sized grommets. I will add a rubber band inside the outer grommet area to make a tight fit.
    see

Erco, and Whit, thanks for the links to the cabinet handles and the automotive grommet.

I am still hoping to find a few sensor plates for my stingray, I made a few out of 0.100 styrene and some angle plastic from the local hobby shop but would prefer metal plates.

As of this post, I see only 1 stingray kit left on the parallax store.
