IR LED is always detecing

Well hello there my name is Caleb Holland and I go to Seymour high school and I have a problem with my boe-bots IR infrared detectors, the right one is always detecting, even when nothing is in front of it, and I have tried everything I can think of to remedy this problem. I have swapped out my resistors, IRs, and even my microcontroller, checked my programming numerous times to make sure that there were no mistakes, and tried contacting Parallex, but they never answered. If anyone can help me out with this I would be very appreciative.

Sounds like your IR receiver might be the problem. Remove the IR leds and see if it is still detecting. If so it is either the receiver, the microprocessor input pin, or the program.

Troubleshooting twin systems is easy when one works and the other doesn't. You say the right one doesn't work, so presumably the left one does. Methodically swap one part at a time. When things start working on the right and not on the left, you found your bad part or connection.

BTW, the IR receiver is active LOW, which means that the output is normally high when no signal is received. It goes low briefly when a 38 kHz signal is detected. That confuses people regularly.

If you suspect your BS2 may have damaged i/o pins, here's a clever way to test it: http://forums.parallax.com/showthread.php/124744-Stamp-BS2-Testing?p=930555&viewfull=1#post930555
