Ping Operation Question

Just wondering... can a Ping module react to a pulse from another Ping? Like have a Ping in one corner of the room generate a pulse and have another, across the room, detect the pulse to make the uP take some action. I've looked at docs and the sample code, but I'm not sure. Perhaps a better question... can a Ping listen without first "saying" something?

No particular application in mind. I just woke up in the middle of the night thinking about it. (Yeah... pretty sad! :-> )

Yes, it can. A Ping always transmits first before listening. You could always disconnect the transmitter. It only listens for about 18.5ms after transmitting though. You'd have to do some kind of coordination between transmitting unit and receiving unit so the receiver is listening at the right time. I'd prefer to use IR or RF for communications ... it would be simpler and you wouldn't have to worry about echos as well. You really have to find something more restful to think about before you try to go to sleep.

Heh... were it that simple. Pings weren't on my mind (I don't think) before calling it a night. Not long ago a similar thing occurred, trying to find out what an Orrery was. Sometimes I worry about myself! :-)
