Does this come with both the remote and the controller circuit shown?

Wow, that is cool! I would have the same question.

My guess is that you get both parts. The key fob is a transmitter and the board is the receiver. It would be pretty pointless to have one without the other.

Yeppers, both parts are included in the kit.

As Chris mentioned in the Announcement thread, We used this product for the Official Propeller Conference presentation timer. It's super easy to interface to.

    I want three sets.

My only wish would be that the buttons not be engraved with lettering. If they were flat, they'd take stick-on decals a little better. (And I have to think of more uses for my fancy printer and vinyl cutter as it is!)

In price we will always loose. so start putting a value on your time :). if you get a failed product from Shenzhen, China, are you going to seek a refund? What if you bought the same thing from Parallax? Can you get then China shipment within a day or two? Rhetorical questions, I know, and one shouldn't aim to fight the tide. I will not become concerned about prices of these kinds of things, as electronic commodities are not our main business. Yet I still find the discussions interesting since I too have a pile of eBay China electronics.

Ken, you will always win in customer service and charisma! BTW, I was trying to be supportive, not critical, in my comment which stated, "I can't do better on Ebay". Clearly your 4-channel product is better for this DIY crowd, at the same price.

TTYTT, I have had amazing success with Ebay China sellers. Even after I leave feedback, they are consistently eager to please, offering to resend or refund if there is any problem. OTOH, my local post office (a conspicuous blight on an otherwise fine city) thinks losing 1.5% of all packages is acceptable! On occasions where my PO may have lost the package, the China sellers are willing to replace, God bless 'em.

Finally! A way to get rid of those all-to-bright LED highway billboards! For only $14.00!

Oh, wait, I guess it's supposed to read "remote digital sign controller" and not "remove digital sign controller".

    Sharp eye, Walter!

And sadly, those "universal remote controls" do NOT allow you to control the universe.

My oven has a button labelled "Stop Time". It does no such thing.

Will the unit recognize two or more more buttons pressed at the same time?

Funny, mine says "Start Time" but I never realized it had stopped so never thought of "starting" it.

I know, erco! Tell it like you see it, all the time, and don't change a bit. Seems like I've had a bit much China exposure in the month of April. Between an extended visit to the component market and a long stay at a really crappy hotel in Hengli with lots of fried food and misquitoes I've been in China overdrive lately. I thought it was the last trip of my career to China till I got back, and at that time our distributor asked me "we need you to come here in August - we're going to teach 60 universities how to program Propeller robots in Xi'an". Still getting my head around that idea.

Sure it is. If you want to trigger a digital camera, the first button is focus and the second is for the shutter.

There is mention of learning other transmitter remotes so can we presume that they are encrypted somehow? So could be used securely?
I already have two of the same remotes as they came with a motorcycle alarm system, so hoping they could all be learnt to one system.

This looks to be the same transmitter on eBay (no receiver)

Not to be a spoilsport, but the above eBay product includes relays and screw terminals on the receiver board, which are not present on the Parallax board. So, it could be a good deal, if you need the relays.

If you need a key fob setup with relays and terminals take a look at these.
    http://www.lightobject.com/RF-Controller-C8.aspx
I have used the 1CH, 2CH, and 4CH many times with BS2's and Prop's by wiring the relays as switches. For the price they aren't bad. I usually get about twice the range on the key fobs with the extendable antenna's.

I believe the chipset on the keyfob that Parallax is selling uses rolling codes so it is better for security than the ones I listed above. There was a link on Parallax's product page that is no longer there that had more info on the chipset but I can't find it anymore. Maybe someone from Parallax can give some more info on the exact chipset used.

I just ordered one of these from parallax for an additional garage door opener, it will hook up to the internal switch near the house entrance.
The remote that is in use right now gets messed up when more than one is used with it.
After I move out, i will take it with me and use it for various projects.

Thanks parallax, I have been wanting to get another remote for a while but didn't have a way to do it.

Wish I'd known this was coming out. Just finished a project with an nRF24L01+ module and the (apparently now discontinued) Sparkfun key fobs (glad I bought two!). My last remaining garage door opener remote was stolen when my truck was broken into last year, and the opener is too old to obtain a replacement, but runs fine otherwise. So I'm wiring my project board into the manual switch circuit. If I'd taken a little longer I could have saved some money (but I wouldn't have had as much fun)!

Found a nice relay in my design search: General Purpose Relay, DPDT, 3V. Has a coil current of only 16.7 mA at 3 volts, so easily driven directly by a Propeller pin. The contacts are rated for 1A.

Wondering if the key fob will be made available as a separate product? Can it work with more than one remote? For my garage door opener, for example, I would want two remotes (one for my wife's car, one for mine).

Incase you're not aware, SparkFun has the files for the Nordic fob available. I just ordered a few PCBs from OSHPark.

You can get the enclosures from Polycase. I like that the Nordic fob's firmware can be changed. I'm planning on trying to substitute the ATtiny24 with an ATtiny84 and add some security features.

In case you didn't see this thread,
You can solder a tiny wire (or switch) between solder points 1 & 2 (see image in linked post) and pushing the key fob buttons toggles the outputs on and off.
