Broken chip?

I bought the prop stick at the OPC, went home plugged it in and it says no prop chip found on com 9. My computer says it was installed correctly though and leds flash. Re-installed it... same message comes up. My quick start board works fine(that's com 6) Wonder if there is a problem with the coms...? Any other thoughts or did i just get a defective chip?

Does the PropStick need power? The QuickStart is USB powered but I don't know that the PropStick is.

This is from the PropStick PDF, Page 3: Pin 12 (VIN) is the input to the onboard regulator and should be supplied with 5-9 VDC.

To expand on the previous answers: From the schematic on page 4, you can see that the USB power is not connected to the Propeller regulator. You need to provide power on the VIN pin.
