Just went to TI to finally order the ASLK Pro University Kit from TI. This thing normally runs for $149USD, but today I found it on special for $99. That is the upside. On the downside, It looks like it ships out of Germany, so shipping via (from the logo anyway) is by Bundespost or DHL. Since both methods are $25USD, I took the DHL option for 2-7 day rather than 7-15 day delivery.

I have mentioned this kit before in previous posts, but for those interested, it is an analog trainer featuring a number of TI (surprise) technologies including various opamp circuits, DAC, multipliers, DC/DC conversion etc. Looks very well done. The breadboard area looks like just the right size for a PropDip and supports as in the Prop-ed kit and maybe an eight pin ADC. Will post more when it arrives.

Oh, looks like easily repairable in case the smoke is let out accidentally. In fact I noticed that the Opamps and multipliers are socketed so you are not totally locked into the chips it arrives with......

Well ain't dat a surprise, TI product that ships (probably made for them by) from Mikroelectronica in Beograd, Serbia. (I think Brno was about as close to there as I have been, in 1999; wrong turn...) anyway, there is a 48hr shipping guarantee, but and there is always a but, it gets to sit still at DHL waiting customs clearance. They met their timeline, just customs is not their problem.. Has anyone had this happen with other TI products? Other US based device makers? Just curious.........

I think pretty much anytime you order something from outside the US you might as well expect some sort of customs delay and/or long shipping times. If the item is not very expensive and can ship by international mail it will usually avoid these kinds of delays and the shipping times can be fairly quick (less than 2 weeks). It looks like this item could have been sent by mail. Maybe they didn't offer that method due to international mail not having the greatest tracking system.
