The "PropGCC" language tag is a problem, since PropGCC is the compiler, not the language. If somebody were to create an object in C++ then it would not work out of the box with a plain C program. This could be a problem for beginning programmers digging through the Obex.
I think it would be better to have a [compiler] [language] format, in two separate and portable fields. This way, you could find all "C" code for all compilers, or just code that just works with the GCC compiler, and so on. It would allow for Catalina code to make it in there, as well as various Basic and Forth dialects.
I also think that the search should have a "choose compiler / language" list option to narrow the relevant results.
Sort of a bug report: The logos in the upper right of the OBEX main page for Parallax and Parallax Semiconductor both have hyperlinks back to the OBEX. Shouldn't they be linked to their respective pages represented by the logo? (http://www.parallax.com/ and http://www.parallaxsemiconductor.com/)
EDIT: Also, both logos are a single PNG. Maybe they should be split to allow easy hyperlinking.
Forum links to the old obex now come up with an error, The requested page "/objects/nnn/" could not be found.
Those links work currently if you know to change obex to obexclassic, but Ken mentioned that obexclassic would only be around for a while.
Is there a way to cushion the transition for folks who use old forum posts to find a linked object? Such as, any call to OBEX/object/nnn is redirected to its new url?
I was able to find the code from the Youtube video in the classic OBEX link by changing it to "http://obexclassic.parallax.com/objects/140/" and found it on the new OBEX using the search function and "Memsic".
However, after getting to the new OBEX 404 Page from clicking on the link on the Youtube video, I originally tried using the search box on the 404 page. When searching for Memsic from the 404 page, I do not get any results from the search box, regardless of what I type in. Obviously the 404 page has an issue with the search box. Perhaps becuase the search is originating from a page/sub-directory that doesn't exist?
Lastly, I would suggest adding some comments to the 404 page regarding the recent transition and that users should try:
Using the search feature from the main OBEX page or
Click on the "ALL" link for object category, select "ALL" for projects per page to display everything, and then browse the complete list.
Just noticed that .spin files do not download but get displayed in the browser window. On IE10 there are no line feeds. On Firefox, it displays correctly in the browser window, but again no download. It is possible to copy and paste but this is IMHO less than usable.
To get around this with the OBEX Spin files with I.E.10 I right click on the file to download and click "Save target as" and make sure you save it as a .spin file.
Perhaps because the search is originating from a page/sub-directory that doesn't exist?
Yes, drives me crazy. This is an anomaly that is going to drive people away from using the new OBEX. I would suggest putting the old OBEX back as http://obex.parallax.com/
Thanks Jeff.
How about putting up the old Obex as Publison has suggested???
heater: right-click->save-as doesn't work with IE10 & windoze7. Didn't try Firefox for this, but IE10 is my choice. Sorry heater, but IE is still the most used browser.
Looking at the first link and the world pic, these results are just UNBELIEVABLE! Where do they get those stats from???
Those websites probably track it when you access them. It's part of what you send when you visit a webpage such as this. It gets better, too: there's more that they can get about you.
Are they?
I don't know anyone who uses IE anymore.
When I mention that some features of our products will not work on IE to our customers they don't question it.
From my limited sample I also don't see any problems with the distribution map, but I can only speak for a few countries. Where I live I don't know any Windows user who is using IE other than for windows update. That covers my home country as well as lots of European countries which I visit in my job. So the map looks right for that part. On the other hand, everyone I know in Japan (note: Limited sample) use only IE. No wonder really, most PCs I saw there came with a keyboard with a button for email, another for 'internet' and so on, and the latter opens IE. I've seen that elsewhere too, but in Japan that's how the computer is actually used. So, IE then. Which fits the map as far as Japan is concerned. Obviously there will be someone I haven't met who is using IE in Europe or someone using Firefox or Chrome in Japan.
Problem will be fixed within a day or so in the next update of the Obex software. Thanks Bump!
We just fixed the problem with .spin files opening up as a web page in IE from the Object Exchange. I tested it in IE 10. Thanks for letting us know about this issue.

I recently uploaded a Keyboard library for PropBasic. But it doesn't show in my group membership list ?
If I go to the Keyboard library it shows that I am the group manager.
Is there something I have to do to make it show up in my group membership list ?

I'm looking into this for you. At the moment, I'm not sure how to see what you're seeing on my side, but I'll sit with our developer here and try to find out what happened and how to fix it. As far as I know, it should have shown up automatically and you shouldn't have to do anything specific to make it appear in your group membership list.
Jeff,
Here are a couple screen shots that may help.
One is the "View" tab and one is the "Track" tab.
In the "View" tab, the Keyboard library does not appear.
We fixed it; please verify that it now appears in your View tab's Group Membership listing.
However, we're uncertain exactly what caused this problem, but it may be related to an indexing job that is scheduled to run at a certain frequency. It may be that it would have shown up automatically a few hours after you posted it. We'll add this to the list of things for us to improve on Obex.
No, it should appear automatically. As designed, it seems it is only doing so on a cron-job schedule, rather than immediately. Not the way we intended. Sorry for the problem.

Any updates on this particular concern? Today, I ran into this from two different avenues: A link on Youtube for a video of the Memsic 2125 Demo code which links to "http://obex.parallax.com/objects/140/" and the Memsic 2125 product page which links to "http://obex.parallax.com/objects/category/8/".

Unfortunately, Right-Click > Save As doesn't seem to work because the file still gets treated as an .htm file.

According to a number of sites IE is not on top anymore, and some even have it in third.

the one marked OBEX? It just searches the forums?
Where's the link to the OBEX?
I don't think those are related. Here's how it renders on my browser:
My display looks a little different.
1280x1024x32bits -
on a 4x3 aspect display(??)
Windows Classic Style
extra large font (??)
Dual monitors

Works well with Chrome also now.
Tested with:
http://obex.parallax.com/object/197
Chrome version Version 27.0.1453.116 m

Yes it is there now.
Thanks for your help. I thought there was something I needed to do.
