I'm making a robot (almost) from scratch- how low to the floor is this sensor suppose to be? Let's say; indoors with a black floor and a white line or white floor with a black line.

    It depends on the lighting conditions of course, but, Indoors, You can have the sensor 1/2" above the line, and it will still work.
    However, lower is better, and you will get more accurate sensor readings, if you stay less than 1/4" above the floor.
    Also, don't forget you can adjust the sensitivity a little bit using the variable resistor built onto the sensor PCB.

    Since you are building from scratch, you should try to make it adjustable if at all possible. :smile:
