Has anyone used these ? https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11666
They look really cool. Motor, controller, encoder and wheel all-in-one.
$35 each I guess isn't too bad...

$35 USD for a 60mm diameter wheel assembly. It is nice to not have axels. And the encoder enclosed is cool. I wonder if you could easily adapt two to a BOE-bot chassis. It seems a Propeller would work well with it.

Neat module! Amanda & Duane will like the tread attachment. http://hub-ee.com/?q=About-HUBee-Wheels

Nice exploded view at the bottom of that page. Mechanically, it looks like there's a whole lotta rubbing at a large diameter. Might mean frictional losses and/or wear under load. Should be OK for small bots.

These do look interesting. They'd be great if one didn't have room to put a motor anywhere else. I'm going to pass for now.

I do have a couple of sets of Vex treads I'm slowly turning into a robot.

I agree that they look interesting for tight spaces. However, I think RC servos with separate wheel encoders are probably a more cost effective solution.
