iPhone + Case Logic case = Tough Little Sucker...

I pulled a bone-headed mistake the other night and left my iPhone on the roof of my car.
Upon discovering it missing I recalled that I might have left it on the roof and retraced the first part of my trip hoping to find it, no joy.
I tried the iCloud locating function but again, no joy (turns out I had turned it off on the phone...).
So fast forward to the next day, my wife says she seems to recall hearing a thumping noise on the roof near a local Meijer store. My daughter and I decided to go take one more look, much to my surprise I see the phone laying along the edge of the road. This is a four lane road that is pretty busy and at this point the phone has been there for around 19 hours. To my surprise the phone was in perfect shape. The case is just one of the ones with a thin rubber part and a hard plastic shell that snaps over the rubber part. I could see that the case had taken hits on three corners, but it protected the phone perfectly. I was likely doing something like 40 to 50 mph when it fell off, so it took a pretty good beating.
So luckily my little story had a good ending, the lessons are:
1) Don't leave your phone on the roof of your car...
2) Use a protective case, this one was only $8.99 at Big Lots.
3) Don't turn off the locator function, I could have found it much sooner.
