ColorPAL Question

I am getting ready to test out my ColorPAL with the Prop BOE. In the instructions here: http://learn.parallax.com/colorpal-and-vga-propeller-spin-demo it states to connect R1 through V to Pins P15 through P8. This may sound stupid but I want to be clear before going further. I am presuming that if I want to use the VGA side then I connect the R1 through V to the left side and for Serial Terminal the Right side, correct? The Left side says VGA and the Right says Serial but it does not say anything about this in the instructions. Just want to be certain so I do not see any magic smoke!!!!!

Words are rather slippery, try to seek out good diagrams of the wiring. There are some connection diagrams in the documents, and photos of connection configuration.

I used to get very irate with poorly written technical English, but the situation never seems to achieve the standards of excellence I desire. The best thing to do if in doubt is to back off, think like an engineer, and if someone will be helpful... ask them.

That "R1 though V" is a bit confusing... this are VGA video signs and V is not for Volts, it is for VERTICAL.

I really don't know anything about the ColorPAL, but it seems the process is generally the same in all situation. You really need to get the connection diagrams and draw some insights from those. Try to confirm the VGA connections are typical to a generic VGA hookup with any Propeller.

It helps if you know that the VGA video output from the Propeller is configured to a block of 8 pins. And there are good examples of the resistor networks that are used between the VGA plug and the Propeller in the Propeller Protoboard schematic.

This situation looks to me like a standard VGA connection for video output, and another 3 wire connection for input from the ColorPAL.

I am not sure which board is being used in the photo, it looks like the newer BOE Propeller Board and it certainly wires up differently than the Parallax ProtoBoard. So the document is written for a specific board, without a clear explaination of the resistor networds to the red (r1 and r0), blue (b1 and b0), and green (g1 and g0).

I guess we are both learning something about the Propeller BOE. Get that document as well. Or at least its schematic.
The Propeller BOE is a tightly packed board, so going slow and careful with wiring is wise.
