Is this really robotic? I am guessing that it just bounces off walls and obstacles and just randomly roams - eventually cleaning most of the floor. I see no other sensors other than the outside ring being a contact sensor...

Does anybody have one?

I saw them in Walmart a couple weeks ago and looked and looked some more at the box and came to a similar conclusion. I was tempted to try one (we just had a bunch Of wood floor put in) since "bump and wander" would still get the job done.

Haven't bought it yet and haven't asked the Great Google if there are answers out there.

    The website says,

"This O-Cedar® O-Duster™ Robotic Floor Cleaner:
    • Features auto-navigation, allowing it to change direction when objects and walls are detected
    • Uses a disposable electrostatic cleaning cloth to attract and capture dust and hair
    • Offers 2 cleaning programs: short (30 minutes) and long (120 minutes)"

My guess is that it doesn't even have a bump sensor, it relies on the rotary motion to self deflect in a new direction when it encounters resistance.

This is the Vileda Virobi Robotic Mop - the Vileda company apprarently make some real robotic vacuums. Look like O Cedar bought their idea.

    Here is a review -

Looks like a mechanical bump & go mechanism as found in many of my 1960 toy robots. Not intelligent, but a slight improvement over the RoboMop Weasel ball.

Are you suggesting that walking around in my socks would be just as effective?

@erco - A priest dancing in his underwear is risky business... :-)

    Sorry!
