v.r. module/c language

Can the prop be programmed directly with the c language? I want to get a V.R. module,but i think for the prop would have to be programmed in c. I wouldn't mind learning c since it's supposed to be a little faster and somewhat universal, but i havn't seen any examples. Do you start out in spin or use a different compiler?
