I got some of that for Christmas, interesting stuff.

Later, when gluing some large neodymium magnets, I found that JB Weld behaves in a similar manner.

All I could think of was a new way to get rid of Batman & Robin . . . strap magnets on them and sit them next to a giant blob of this stuff . . . closing questions could be interesting . . .

Instead of seeking magnetic fields, if you could concoct some heat seeking blob -- the stuff could creep up on unsuspecting individuals.

A lot less messy than ferrofluids!

Or just develop a blob that continues to grow. It will make all kinds of excitement. I remember that radio show on WLS out of Chicago.

I guess you never saw one of my all time favorite 1950s science fiction movies, "The Blob" with Steve McQueen. it starts out tiny, but grows as it eats more and more of the town. I felt sadden when it ate the dog, but it was very funny when it sneaked into a full movie theater on the ceiling and managed to drop and eat a large portion of the audience.

I suppose this is why I always like Steve McQueen.

Beware of those meterorites, the next one might just have a life form on board.

Does anyone know how to make this stuff?
And Instructable or some such source?

Seems like Silly Putty with iron or another magnetic powder added to it.

Maybe something like the cornstarch mixes but a bit thicker, maybe.

There are variable viscosity fluids called "Magnetorheological fluids" that are used in active suspensions.

Here is a reference on how to make it.

Cornstarch mixed with water behaves quite differently from Silly Putty.

Silly Putty is an oil based product and stores well for long periods.

Cornstarch and water will grow mold and get funky. Plus it doesn't demonstrate the elasticity that Silly Putty has.
