Forum icons unfriendly to touch devices.

While my PC time has been reduced to almost nothing, just half an hour each week, I have been forced to use the tablet. It has a resolution of 1024x768 and 10 inches of diagonal. I find the numerical icons used for the pages difficult to activate with my fingers. While they are ok for a mouse pointer, they are too close and are too small to accurately use with the fingers. The arrows are just to be ignored due to their tiny size. May be you could detect the browser and provide a small touch screen friendly version. Like 24x24 pixels per icon, oder so.

Thanks.

Every change in user interface has an upside, and a downside.

When I switched from a desktop to a notebook, the touchpad was a source of endless trouble with icons. In the case of touchpads, the size of the screen is downsized, and the resolution of the input field is degraded to a finger tip.

The real issue is whether this endless chain of user interface innovations creating more problems than it is solving. I suppose you could always use a stylus with a touchpad to regain the resolution. I have a a Palm Zire72 PDA that I faithfully use a stylus with and that has been so accepaible that I've yet to bother with an iPhone or IPad.

I suspect that Parallax would have to buy upgraded code for the Forum as it is software package that was purchased from another company. A better approach might be for Firefox, Google Chrome, or Internet Explorer to provide a touchscreen friendly version of a browser ... so that everything would work right and you would not have to ask each site to do something special.

With an iPad/iPhone, it's not a problem, you just zoom in until it's big enough to fit your fingertip on the icon and then when you get to the new page, zoom out if needed. Two additional finger gestures but perfectly usable.

If your tablet/phone doesn't support zoom gestures, then they are too small and it is a pain.

I have become quite accustomed to pinch zooming on navigation icons on my iPad. It's second nature now. Like Rick said. If your device doesn't support such gestures then it is a pain.

What's the problem? A quick pinch and zoom and you have huge buttons to press, err touch.
Mostly works on my little Samsung Galaxy S phone. It just has a problem sometimes that any attachment paper clip icon might end up always obscuring the button.

Any way, be carfull what you order. One other fourum I visit a lot just launched a "mobile friendly" version of their site to account for phones and tabs. Well, it does not work at all on my phone. The original site is just fine though.

I have a Samsung tablet and chrome. When the selection is not clear (like with the page selection) I get a box with zoomed icons, to easily select the right one.
Great feature, I think chrome related.

In other words, you don't like the user interface. Maybe revert to a keyboard driven device?
