Latest advances in consumer electronics technology from Taiwan

Today's "Taipei Times" reports that by the end of the year, "smart" disposable diapers are likely to hit the market. These have built-in sensors and are being developed by the state-funded Industrial Techonology Research Institute of Taiwan.

"A sensor module in the diaper senses when it has been soiled and sends a wireless transmission signal to a designated phone...."

Added to this, the Japanese have been seeing a growing popularity if patented de-odorizing underware. The two technologies seem to have a synergy.

I can probably think of better ways for technology to improve parenting.

These are adult diapers, intended for the elderly and seriously ill. Kids will just have to deal with the problem the old fashioned way.

For any doubters, three Taiwanese companies are working together to bring these to market. Personally, it would be just another good reason for me to turn off my cell phone.
