So as some of you know I had been going back and forth about what robot chassis to get for my Birthday. I had decided on a sting ray because in the end I knew it was solid quality and it wouldn't break down, bend axles whatever. I scaraficed 4 wheel drive for the quality of the sting ray, and I also like giving my money to parallax, as through the many contest they have had, they've given more to me than any other company ever.

Before I ordered my bot, I had posted something about wishing they still had the harder blue wheels. Well there sales manager saw this and must have pulled my email off the bottom of my post. He informed me they had one that was in there e-bay stock that was brand new with the blue wheels, and to just add to my purchase comments that I wanted the sting ray with blue wheels in e-bay stock.

Fast Forward, Feb 13, my birthday, the mail man delivers my package. Im super excited!! I open the box everything seems fine. Then I realized that I was missing the included parallax screw driver. Next I examined the body pieces and found all of them were a bit scuffed, but one of the deck plates and the tail wheel holder ma'jigger were serverly scuffed/scrathced, the I realized there were definite screw marks in the other deck plate. This kit had been used at some point by some body. Everything else worked, motors are fine. I did not want to exchange it as i have been really excited to get this project going!!!!!

I e-mailed Jim back as instructed by a Parallax Employee over the phone, just to tell him what was going on and show him some pictures. In the -mail I told him that I had picked this sting ray because Parallax is always Hi-Quality, and I was a bit dissapointed with the sting ray and wish that I had just ordered the new one with orange wheels, obviously the problem wasn't with the build quality of the sting ray it was that I had received a slightly used one, and told it was new.

I told him I was not sure what I wanted to do as far as making it right, but I did not want to send it back. I was just hoping at the least they could maybe send me a new deck and tail piece along with the screw driver. Hey I know the screw driver isnt a big deal but its a cool little promo thing, Im the type of person to order a fee prop stickers with an order. I figured in the end replacing the two pieces would be cheaper for them than exchanging for a bot they couldn't really sell any ways. Best solution all around!

I received an e-mail back fro Jim yesterday, for some reason just found it today.... He apologized and told me must have made a huge mistake thinking the e-bay stock was new and not a return, and said he had even contemplated just sending me a new one instead. He then told me to make up for the issue they could send me another full stingray kit minus the wheels and motors, or give me a pretty decent sized store credit.

I must say I would have been happy with the replacements for the worst pieces as I stated above. Parallax really went above and beyond on this one! I just can't believe how incredible they are to there customers. Never have a I seen a company this large do something like this. What gets me is it is not just my situation, ive seen others treated very well by this company! This is one of the reasons when ever I review a product for some place like element 14 I always use the propeller and parallax [products as my bench mark. I hope Parallax continues to thrive and keeps making micros and robotics for a very long time. Its great when you hear things such as big companies like STMicro are going bankrupt, but Parallax keeps chugging along, even without the size and volume of a bigger company. I believe issues like mine are one of the many reasons why, I cant imagine what they do for corporate buyers with problems. Just to clarify im not happy that ST is in financial trouble, just to see Parallax holding its own.

I honestly do not believe you will ever find better customer service than you get from Parallax. It starts at the top with Ken Gracey and works its way all the way down the ladder. I plan to continue to use and buy Parallax products for as long as I am doing any types of electronics projects. I can not see them going anywhere but up with the excellent customer service and overall support they provide. Besides, if anything were to happen I am pretty sure most of us on these forums would pitch in to help them out as they always seem to do for others.

Im just really glad I chose to buy the sting ray, If I had gotten a rover with a bowed up chassis that wouldn't drive straight im sure I would have just had to return it three times at my own shipping expense. This issue was taken care of far beyond my expectations.
